LIFE STUFF

Playback: July ’14

Well, what a month.  I’m a pretty positive person and can find a lot of good things to say about almost anything, but man I’ve got to say up front that this month sucked a big one in a lot of ways. Le boy and I are no longer, so that’s that. I probably should have invested in kleenex stocks with the amount I’ve been able to tear through. 😉 ha!  Ah well, it is what is is. While that was a big part of this month, I did have some pretty good moments, so let’s focus on the good times and talk about them instead!

The account that I was overseeing at work came to a close at the beginning of July with some pretty great results. Ever heard of unclaimed property? You can read a little about it here. Pretty interesting stuff if you ask me! We were able to secure coverage in a nationally syndicated article plus a couple television and radio interviews. Woo!

I remember hearing about Shakespeare in the Park programs when I was in high school and always thought to myself – one day, if I live in a city, I will see this. Well, that happened. Canadian Stage productions puts on two plays each summer for Shakespeare in High Park. This year’s plays are As You Like It and Titus Andronicus. Jordan, Acca and I grabbed some goodies, blankets, got ready for some laughs and took in As You Like It. If you’re in the city you should check it out!  Hopefully we can get to a showing of Titus Andronicus before the run ends.

I set up my pseudo studio at home for my lost wax castings. My classes didn’t happen this month and I’ve been doing a lot more thinking than doing. I was able to work on one new design, though I want to rework it a little. Still loving this new creative outlet! I suspect I’ll have much more to come in the future! Just you wait!

I’ve been missing the County something fierce lately. Now that I think about it, I haven’t stayed put in one place during the summer since my parents moved in 2011. In 2011 I spent a month in Trois-Rivières and travelled to Iceland the last two summers. I keep thinking about how nice it would be to go down to the water and fish, hop in the canoe or take a drive out to Bloomfield. Ah, the County. Anyways, I spent a weekend at my parents in Burlington with the urge to have a little taste of country living. We took a drive out of the town, into some farm lands. Along the way we stopped at a shop for breakfast and visited their petting zoo.  It wasn’t exactly the same but it did the trick.

Two of my favourite people, Andrew and Chris, made their way to Toronto for a little sports getaway. While it was a bro trip in nature, I, being the bro that I am, joined them for a Jays game and fun times. The Jays killed it and we had a pretty rad time ourselves. We caught up over dinner, enjoyed some beers and dusted off our fantastic dance moves. These guys, such good guys.

The best visitors came to town this month, my aunt and little cousins. It was a short visit but we got to spend some good quality time together being goofballs. The girls taught me how to make rainbow loom bracelets, we went to the Burlington beach and took a trip into Toronto so they could see my apartment. We also explored Allan Gardens Conservatory which was such a treat, so many different, interesting plants.

Unfortunately Anders was working off at sea and missed the visit. (He was on the lake actually but that doesn’t have the same ring to it.) Hopefully we’ll be able to have a visit with the four cousins together again next time.

I was lucky to get to spend some good quality time with my parents this month, and I’ve just got to say, I sure am fortunate to be able to call these two mom and dad. They truly are the best people. I really don’t know how to put in to words how I feel about them and just how much I appreciate them and everything they do. I feel so incredibly lucky, happy and grateful to have them. I always know that they are there for me, no matter what. As the kids say “hashtag blessed”.

Throughout the month I challenged myself to a 30 day yoga challenge. It was fantastic and I loved it! You can read about it here.

This August might not match last year’s in Iceland. I don’t want to jinx it but I think it’ll be better than July. Bring it.
