LIFE STUFF

Playback: December ’14

Looking back on what happened this month I’m ever so tempted to call this playback “my month with Matthew.” Aww cute 🙂

I didn’t realize I would have any vacation time this year with having just started the new job, but alas, I did. Mathew and I kicked off the month with a long weekend trip to Mont Tremblant. It was a pretty perfect little weekend. We rented a cabin, made friends with a deer, ate lots of food, explored the village, ate more food and took a trip up to the top of the mountain. It was wonderful.

It was also a good taste of winter and I love winter! There’s something so magical about crisp cool air and fresh snowfalls. Sure, I wouldn’t want to live in winter all year round but if it’s going to be chilly it might as well sparkle with snowflakes, right?

The village was decorated for the holidays and covered in a nice amount of snow. When we took the ski lift up the mountain we both thought it wouldn’t be that special. The clouds were thick and we suspected the view would be terrible but decided to go anyways on account of #yolo. I’m so glad we did! It was magic. Pure and simple.

I wish I could bottle up that weekend and do it again.

It wasn’t the most crafty of months but I did head back to nanopod studio for a bezel setting workshop. Look at all these tools!

At work we launched a distracted driving campaign. Personally, I hate when people use their phones when driving. I have a hard enough time multitasking when I’m texting, I can’t imagine what my brain would be doing if I was driving at the same time. Anyways, you can read about it on the TELUS blog here.

I pitched the story to The Star Phoenix and they decided to write a piece. You can read it here:

When I heard that TELUS hosted a big holiday gala I really wanted to go. It’s something you do when you work in a job like this, right? I feel so grateful and happy with the life I’ve found myself living and I don’t know exactly how to put this into words, so… I’m not going to try right now. But anyways, we attended the gala, hopped into a photo booth and took these cute pics. #awww

Robin invited me out to see a Dan Mangan surprise-ish show. It was weird. They were having some problems with the sound and didn’t seem to happy with the music they were making. He’s going for a new sound which isn’t my fave but that’s fair, it happens. Anyways, there were a couple of good songs and we had fun so that’s what matters, right?

I made my way home for a Friday and got the chance to catch up with my brother over a beer while watching the parentals curl. Rowdy Friday night at the curling club. They both won their matches! Go team!

We had Christmas (with a tree and everything!) for the first time in a couple years. Scoff if you want, but I have always thought that celebrating Christmas was a little weird. I didn’t grow up religious and we always spent time together as a family. Any holiday just seemed like added stress to a what would be regular day. Anyways, that was then. I’m starting to understand it a little more now that I’m not living at home.

It was a great visit with the fam jam. Just lovely.

My mom celebrated her birthday at the end of December so we did what she loves to do, spent the day as a family. We made our way to the falls and grabbed dinner back in Burlington. Ah, what a beauty day.

Matthew also came along and met the fam jam. Yay! Fun!

We rang in the new year with some pretty cool peeps. If you’ve been playing along you know that if the Ottawa group is staying at my place an elevator selfie is full on necessary. It’s tradition.
